In the New Year 2012 I intend to head in a new direction and put my primary focus on Pet Portraits. I will still do my Wildlife art but it will be done the traditional way
using Pastel on paper.
The pet portraits will also be done in Pastel on paper and can easily be rolled and placed in the tube to be sent anywhere in the world. The Pet Owner can then take
their Pet Portrait to any framer to have it framed.

The website ‘minerswildlifeart.com’ has now changed to ‘pawtraitartist.com’  but you will still be able to access the new site using the old name for a while. The current
website will remain as is for the next two weeks while the new site is being updated.

Just when you think things are on the up you get more obstacles thrown in the way. I have finished a
pastel painting which took me a month off and on when it would have normally taken me one night.

I have been reduced to 4hrs of work and now have the possibility of being put of work completely
until my torn cartilage in my painting wrist has completely healed.
Even though I was only doing 1hr per week, this will probably be my last painting for a while.

I hope you like it . Again I am not much of a photographer and the photo was taken after framing
so please excuse the reflections.

Again apologies for not getting online much of late. About a week ago I thought my art was over and that I would never paint again.
Thankfully I have found that if I wear my splint, change my medium to traditional pastels and apply little pressure whilst painting
I have no pain. Unfortunately the digital art has come to an end but I still encourage all digital artists out there to keep pushing forward. It is only a matter of time before it becomes accepted as the new art medium along with the traditional method.

This latest painting of the kitten was done with Rembrandt soft pastels combined with Conte pencil pastels on Canson Mi-tenes pastel paper.

Here is another pastel painting of a Butterfly. Unfortunately when I finish them it is dark and the photo doesn’t come out very good but at least it will give you an idea of how the painting looks.

It feels like I haven’t painted for years. A little over a week ago I finally got released from my full arm
splint after 7 weeks. I still have a below the elbow splint but the freedom of being able to drive again
and dress myself properly is great.
There is still to much pain to be able to digitally paint and I may I may not be able to for quite some time.
My wrist was damaged quite badly and I may not get full usage back again.

But there is a positive believe it or not. I went back to my roots when I got my arm splint removed and
tried my hand at pastels again which is where I first started. With my splint on nice and tight I can paint
without the need to move my wrist and without the need to apply too much pressure.

Below is the end result of my first painting. Please feel free to comment.

My apologies for not being online and contactable for a period of time.
Early in January I had a work mate put me in a painful wrist lock which tore my cartilage
quite severely. On Friday just gone I had quite major surgery on my wrist and will be in
a splint for 6 weeks followed by intensive therapy to get everything working properly
again. Because I am right handed, I will be unable to drive or paint for 6-8 weeks.

I learn’t an important thing during this whole process and that is to look after number
one. As much as you don’t wan’t the person at fault to loose their job you really do
need to put yourself first.

I have attached a couple of paintings that I did earlier this year but unfortunately there
won’t be anymore for 2-3 months. Also attached is photo of wrist.

I have been battling for quite some time now to have my style of art (Digital Art) accepted in the wildlife art world. I have won many awards, been juror for large art competitions & sold numerous paintings but have been turned away from every wildlife art society and most galleries because my art has been done digitally.
It is so frustrating.  I paint exactly the same way. Instead of a standard brush I use a digital brush, instead of a canvas I paint onto my tablet. The end result is a Giclee stretched canvas print (with pigment inks) that will not fade for 100-200 years.
Funny how lithography or silk screening like Warhol is art but using a digital brush is not. I guess I have chosen a style that is new and will still take many years before it is completely accepted.

Unfortunately I am going to have to give in slightly to the pressures of going back to traditional painting for now. I guess I am lucky that I can do both and that is what I am going to do. Over the next couple of months I have some rather large oil paintings (direct to canvas) that I will be working on and then I will be alternating between traditional & digital.
